Course Description
Whether you find yourself captivated by the intricate world of crime scenes, eager to unravel the path from evidence to justice, or you’re simply fascinated by the actors who bring it to life on TV, this program invites students to embark on a journey into the realm of crime scene investigation. Students will not only understand the importance of maintaining the integrity of evidence but also learn the intricacies of upholding the chain of custody as they delve into their own crime scene investigation. In this hands-on experience, students will actively participate in the processes of discovering, preserving, and analyzing evidence, including the examination of fingerprints and fibers. They will also engage in diagramming, sketching, and photography, all while navigating the intricacies of balancing critical factors in cases involving firearms evidence, arson, and explosives. Embark on our journey into crime scene investigations and discover if the world on television crime dramas just might become your new reality. *Supplemental course fee of $95 for lab materials.

Instructor Bio
Mitch Credle has been intensely involved in community service, coaching and mentoring Washington D.C., youth since 1982. He has a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 1986 and began investigating homicides in 1991. His passion as a youth coach has been instrumental in the development of hundreds of youths who now are productive adults to include current DC Council Member Kenyon McDuffie and former NBA players Steve Francis and Michael Smith. During his career as a homicide detective, he was responsible for investigating many high-profile cases until 2013. He then transferred to the Sexual Assault Unit where investigated sex related crimes until he retired from MPDC on October 31, 2015. His first book, Stranger in the Streets, was published in 2010. His second book, Damaged Roots, was published in 2011. He was inducted into the Cardozo High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2011. He lectures at area high schools and colleges about crime, justice and forensic science.
